Very bright man. Became the Governor of a small city at 17 years old. Moved to a bigger city, Pyungyang(now Capital of North Korea) and became a Christian and attended University. Became a teacher, then went to seminary and became a famous minister in Pyungyang. He played an important part in the Korean Liberation movement for Independence. Some history or textbooks has his name noted as one of the leaders of that movement.

First Kim family to settle in USA. In S Korea, Luke was Dean of  SoongSil University in Seoul. He came to Los Angeles and settled there in early 1940's. He started a first Korean church in LA-with his house next to the church building. Luke was one of the first ministers to go to North Korea to minister and take Bibles. Luke passed away in Los Angeles. Ruth lived with her daughter Grace after Luke passed away and  she passed away several years later.

Tuberculosis, which he caught and died at 21 from it

Graduated from Pyungyang Soong Sil High School in 4 years when normally it takes 6 years.
1933 Graduated from University of Soong Sil in Pyungyang with an English major
1935 Graduated Pyungyang Presybyterian Seminary
1937 August 31, Married Hahn Hae Alice Kyung in Manchuria. Sept 17 same year (after being married for 17 days) he left his wife in Korea and went to United States to study. Alice planned to join him in USA and she was admitted to a college in USA but the Japanese would not let her go.
1937 Came to United States and stayed with his brother Luke Kim in Los Angeles. He learned to cook to get a job. Attended Chatham Seminary for one year and received Bachelor's Degree in Divinity.
